General SVX thought/question

After responding to the question about the pearl 96 that turned out to be a 92, i began to wonder (dangerous thing). The 97's were only available in 4 colors and the 92 and 93-96 were in 5 or so colors. This seems to big Subaru's biggest flaw acroos it's product line up. They need more color choices. As for the question, why did they put smaller tires on the 97?

Did the smaller tires have something to do with the it going easier on the wheel bearings?

The 93s that were brought into the US (301) were only Barcelona Red. That was the 25th Anniversary Edition.

Sorry. I knew that. I meant to type 94-96. That's why I broke it with 92 and 94-96. The 97's were only in 4 colors. I hit 93 by mistake. Anyone else know why the tires were changed?

I don't know why the tire size was changed, but concerning your other point I think Subaru did a fantastic job picking the colors for the car. Maybe they could have sold more by offering other colors, but the colors they did pick fit the car very well.

I guess that's the problem with the SVX - Subaru remained faithful to the original vision for the car without much thought given to how those decisions would affect sales.

I never said I didn't like the colors, because I do. But they should have offered more then 4 colors in 97. The pearl looks so good, why kill it after 94? The blue was a short timer as well. That is my point. There should have been all 7 colors offered every year.
1. Pearl white
2. Ebony black
3. Bacerlona/brilliant red
4. Laguna blue
5. Emerald green
6. Claret
7. Silver

I miss any?

I don't know why the tires were changed, but my two guesses would be
1. Cost - always an issue, especially with a car that isn't selling.
2. Fuel Economy - could be that they were too close to some regulation for their comfort.

These are just guesses though.

...Yes, the Barcelona and Brilliant reds were different colors as well, and should not be listed together.

Claret is a different color from Bordeaux Pearl.
The tire size was changed for the '97 because Bridstone no longer made the original tire and they offered the closest M+S performance tire they could to FHI for the car. It was only available in the size that was on the '97's. FHI knew that the SVX was ending in '97 so they used that tire since it fit the orig. wheels and wheelwells.

With only

17,000 or so made... they are not going to offer many colors..

get up to a major production car of 100's of thousands... then you can offer some color choices.

But they did make multiple colors. What I guess I'm saying is it would be nice to be able to have a 97 in Pearl White & black or silver or Laguna Blue, etc. That's why I titled it general thought. My own $.02
