My rear diff plate now has a 1by 3 inch hole in it.
Since my 5spd swap I never have had a problem with my rear diff. I always thought the trannie was going to go out, but now after about 13,000 miles my rear end blew up. But the reason for failure was not abuse although it received more than most 5spd owners wll deal out. It blew up because one of the ring gear bolts came lose and got caught in some gear teeth, then it got flung at the diff plate and now there is a hole in the diff. It happened 2 days ago coming home, about 3 blocks away I stoped to turn and when i tried to move it felt like my brakes were on, after a couple of tries it freeded up and I drive home to the smell of burnt diff fluid on the exhaust. Today I looked under the car and found a hole in the diff, and when I took both the fill and drain plug out I found allot of metal shavings, and a head of what looks to have been the ring gear bolt.
My main question is do you think I can slavage the LSD portion of the diff, and swap that into another 4.11 rear end, or should I go buy another LSD unit and another rear end? Thanks
