OT Legacy front diff
In 2004, I replaced the transfer clutch and solenoid. When I put it back together, I didn't get the parking mechanism back together correctly. In short order, the tranny chewed up the parking gear, the reduction gear, the parking pawl, parking pawl spring, etc. I cannibalized the old SVX transmission for the parts I needed and got it going and stopping again.
Some time after that I noticed a bad-axle-like rattle. I was worried that the diff had ingested debris and was failing. The car's been running fine with that rattle since. I bought a new axle yesterday and started on the work to replace it today. I've done it a few times now, so I was confident it wouldn't take me long. Sure enough, before too long I was ready to pull it out. I got the roll pin out and took the pry bar to the axle to pry it off the stub... ...and the shaft came out wit hthe axle. Crap. I stuffed it back in, reassembled the car and it's driving like it was. I have no idea how long it'll last, but the reason I decided to replace the axle was that it was making more noise than normal. Of course, I know now the noise is coming fro mthe diff and not the axle. Any words of wisdom? Anybody want to place a bet on how much longer it'll last?

Probobly got some bearings chewed up on the output shaft or on teh sun gears back there. I wouldn't be surpised. Check the tailsection first and make sure everything is in order
