factory brochure show wheels in Opposite direction
Im sure this has been brought up before
but in this factory brochure the cars wheels on on reversed (I like that term better then backwards  )in several pics, and then one of the last cut a way views of the car they are on the usual way... http://cgi.ebay.com/1991-Subaru-SVX-...QQcmdZViewItem just found it interesting personally they look great either way too

The reason we call that backwards is because the wheels are marked with the side that they go on. The wheels are also show backwards in the factory VHS tape that came with the car. Yes, the look ok either way, but they are marked for the proper side.

Dayle: After all these years of chastising folks for having mounted their wheels on the wrong side of the car, now you are telling me that the SVX was designed to have the wheels opposite from what we have been led to believe is correct! Looking at the design drawings, they had the wheels reversed, so it must have been the original intention. This blows my mind, causing me to wonder if maybe.........."What? You machined wheel mold with little "L" on wrong side? How we going to explain to Mr. Jamachi San? How YOU going to explain to Mr. Jamachi San?" Do you suppose............

That's how the wheels are drawn in the original concept sketches.
That might have something to do with it.

I never really give anyone a hard time about them
but I know others do.... I just thought it was interesting to see the folks in Japan liked them both ways too

I think I know what happened!!! One of the mold guys put a R for Reft and a L for Light.

i think i used to put the wheels on "reverse"..i still think that they look ok that way - that is a personal opinion . dont need an arguement over that.
but i keep them the "right" way
