Don't pay full price for Vista.

http://windowssecrets.com/comp/070201#story1

I'm going to lift my personal boycott and try this out tomorrow if I can get a copy. Haven't looked if they are in stock.

What you wanna bet MS knew people would do this, and the price is so high because they want to rip off the people who don't know better, but in a way keep the frugal techie junkies somewhat happy?

Marketing strategy, methinks.

I almost considered thinking about getting Ultimate, too, but Premium looks just dandy. Can't wait for video drivers to catch up.

Something funny I read on a website:

"You should go to Vista."
"So you like Vista?"
"Not really, no. I run a Vista simulator."
"Virtual Server?"
"Nah, I just turned on all the flashy crap in XP, changed the background image, took some memory out of my box and clocked down the CPU. Then broke Media player. Works like a charm."

I do love Macs. I have been using Apple's computer since I was a wee toddler because that's what all my schools have leased. I was a hard core Mac techie/net admin assistant for 3 semesters in high school.

Then I became a gamer. If this laptop ever breaks, I'll get a ibook or something, but as far as gaming is concerned and even though it's early, Vista is the way of the future. XP will not be compatible with DirectX 10. Video drivers are still in beta stage right now for Vista but there is only a very minimal decrease in Vista's video processing ability with XP drivers.

And like I told someone else, all I do is game on my computer, I use it for nothing else. This is worthwhile to me.

I'm going out today in like 5 inutes to get it, along with a DVD drive finally because apparently Vista comes on a DVD. Guess I have to bring all my parts out of the dark ages, like it or not.

Oh and I thought I mentioned this somewhere, but I don't own XP, so I have no choice here. I can buy a nearly obsolete OS or a new one.

I can see it for gaming, but I really have to say my Mac is so much better than my mom's PC for everyday work.

Lol "work". That is something my PC will never see.

So $350 later I'm wondering if I'l ever be able to afford wheels for my SVX at the rate I am sinking money into this rig.

I got Vista Premium for $160, another SATA HD, 160Gb for $70, a SATA DVD writer for $88 x_x and some rechargeable battery thingy for $28 which should save me a lot in AAs. My Intellimouse just eats them up.

I'll let you know how it goes.

The damn Vista box is Fort Knox. I don't know how to open it.

Ok I got it. It's hella retarded opening lengthwise up the side of the box with a hinge, secured by 3 plastic stickers like yo ufind on CD cases. The top one covers the certificate of autheticity and you have to rip it off to open the box. I suggest getting a razor and cutting it first so it remains on the box.

Took about an hour and ten minutes to install completely.

I'm activated and ready to go.

Hardest part was finding drivers to get me online. Neither of my Linksys cards are supported yet, but about 70% of Linksys stuff is. My mainboard is fully supported as well is my video card, and my soundcard and G15 had no trouble installing XP drivers..

There is definitely a learning curve to this OS, but man is it awesome.

I've gotten the basic upgrade. Does anyone know if it will upgrade only one computer? Can I use it on a second one without paying an additional fee?

Vista is such a load of ****...

Here's a good upgrade that will last alot longer and cause alot less problems (if you are somewhat competent on how computers work)...

http://www.apple.com/getamac/

http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/

Microsoft ripped off OSX so bad with Vista... You know that cool little thing on the right hand of the screen with mini applications... Yeah, Mac had that years ago....

http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/dashboard.html

Oh yeah, and "Windows Flip 3d".... They completly ripped off Expose' from OSX...

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/expose/

Really I shouldn't have to say anymore, but if anyone has used a Mac in the recent years you know exactly what I am talking about. They aren't what they used to be... They are simply a pleasure to use now. YES, they are overpriced and hard to find. And YES if you buy RAM through apple you will pay an arm and a leg for it (which is why I didn't)... Other than that, my mac hasn't gone wrong ONCE since I've owned it. And I do ALOT of stuff on it (work and school and gaming)...

Simply put, if you switch, you won't be dissapointed... If you are so narrow minded as to think that windows is the only thing out there then you are missing out...

My $0.02

Side note....

I did go and check out Vista at Bestbuy for a few hours when it was released a few weeks ago and I must admit, it is alot nicer than anyother version of Windows to date...

I guess most of my anger comes from the fact that so much of that version of windows is now like Mac... Too much...

Oh well, Windows still doesn't have the UNIX core and that is what is important So like all the other versions of windows, there will be viruses

NikFu does not get viruses. Haven't had one since Win 98SE. I don't even use a scanner or firewall.

I will say though, of all the years I have used Macs they have never given me grief. Windows gives me grief all the time but again Macs just are not supported enough gamewise.

Anyways, point of this thread is exactly what the title says. It's not meant to hold Microsoft on any pedestal.

You will not be able to activate the same copy on different machines online if they are using different mainboards and cpus, but maybe over the phone.. you might be able to use one activation key for both machines, unless you have to go online for some reason. I really don't know. If you try it you might get your HD locked.
Machine specs?
