Pathetic!!!

I found ONE site that had a listing for my 'silver', while searching for 'old' or 'collector' cars!
I found out that MY silver has a 'trade in' value of $217 (DOLLARS) and a value of $714. IF I would sell it to a private buyer!!

I can sell the CONVERTERS to the scrap guy for MOST of that $217!!!! then get $200 for the carcass!

Will some of you guys that have more time than me SEARCH and FIND a better place that we can track the value of our cars without feeling like we should just scrap them and MOVE ON!???!

I guess we need to make more 'noise' on the 'collector' boards, or take the $217 from the insurance companies!!

Is there a member here that would take a $217 check for the CAR????

I would have to HURT someone REALLY bad that made an 'offer' like that!!

Re: Pathetic!!!

I'll give ya $218.

JK
But seriously, If you have a nice, well cared for SVX, I would seriously get it appraised and documented. This is for in the unlikely event that something happens to your car, the insurance companies cant screw you as bad.
There was a guy with a really nice 300ZX that had his car appraised at about $40,000. It was destroyed in a rear ending and the insurance company of the other guy tried offering him only $2,200 since they were going by what the "book" said it was worth. Needless to say, he took the documentation of appraisal with him to court and got a lot of money and got to keep the car for parts for another Z.

Re: Pathetic!!!

Just think, only 4 more years until it can be classified as an antique vehicle, in Arkansas at least. Believe me, 20 years from the day the car rolled off the assembly line it'll have a antique tag. I do think that we need to try and educate the public about the rarity of the car. I'm there are less than the original 14k imported to the states left. I'd be willing to put up my money and bet there's less than 7k or 8k on the road. I can go out and find a Chevelle or Mustang for less than the price of a SVX but both the Mustang and Chevelle are thought to be collector cars.

Re: Pathetic!!!

At this time there still seems to be a stigma about Japanese cars in the collector world but, I can't help to think this will change.
As an old fart on this forum, I bought a 1958 Jaguar XK150 in the 1970's for under $1,000 (20,000 FHC produced). Put in a couple thousand to make it run and look good (actually a very reliable car), then sold it to a person I am still in touch with for a down payment on my first house. He did a frame up restoration and now the car is worth more than the house I now own.
I believe there is a turning point coming soon. The production numbers are in our favor, not to mention the Italian design and respectable performance. Mileage will always be a factor. Have I had too many beers tonight?

Re: Pathetic!!!

Browsed a pocket book on used car values at Canadian Tire yesterday while waiting at the parts counter. Had a retail of 10,000 and wholesale of 7,500 for 92 SVX with low mileage.

Well you're definitely at an advantage if you can find one and then someone magically thinks that they're collector cars.

I've always loved the SVX, never had a bad thought against it. It always seems to me that people think more of the negatives of the car instead of realizing how many light years ahead the car is when it comes to the design and ingenuity placed in the vehicle. I would be hard pressed to compare the car with the "Camry's and Accord's" of the time because the SVX sat in a class of it's own. It should be compared with the Porsche's and Lamborghini's of the time. I'm sure some of you think I'm on the soap box (quite frankly I am) but I think that the car deserves a hell of a lot more credit than it gets.

EXACTLY what I was looking for!! Let's go GET them!
As Sov13t said, " Do we KNOW where 'they' LIVE???

Lets FLOOD the 'show' circuit!! Let the honda , neon and cavalier boys KNOW what an SVX IS!! When they pull in and line up against 35 cars, and see ONE "Stand Alone" SVX parked there GLOWING, they always ask "What's That??"

At my last Dr's appointment for the 'eye' thing, I took pics of Henry and Di's SVX's with me. I showed the pics to the Dr. and said that "Thanks to HIM, I could work on these cars again"!

His quote, " Are These Subarus??" Outstanding Doctor!! Not only can he FIX EYEBALLS, He KNOWS a Subaru when he sees it!!

I think making an effort to enter parts of the show circuit would be beneficial to the SVX. I attempted to do Arkansas' full show season but with the baby due next Thursday and no SVX in my garage it won't happen. However, when I had it I drove as much as possible and when I was at stop lights and got asked about the car I'd take the 30 seconds I had to tell people. I even got asked what it was in the Arby's drivethru. I'm sure we've all gotten the "are those windows custom" question as well.
