Hopefully a Newbie
I posted in the "Wanted" section but thought I would copy and paste the post here and see what kind of responses I would get. Great site to help out the uneducated.
"OK. Here is your chance to talk to a Newbie that just found out about this model of a car two weeks ago. I am seriously interested in purchasing one of these cars. I want it for an everyday driver. What do you guys and gals think? I will drive it 62 miles round trip 5 days a week. I have to buy a car by the beginning of the new year. I have had a company car for the last 10 years but they don't want to pay for the gas anymore. What got me started on all this is I wanted an AWD car so I can be sure to make it into work. I am a television news photographer who has had a couple of V-8 Ford Explorers for all of those 10 years. And I'm used to going where I want. So I have to get into work. I started looking at Outbacks and stumbled on a guy selling a show quality SVX but he wants more than I can afford. I have a local guy selling one for around $2500.00 but I can't get him to respond to emails or phone messages. He is only a half hour from the house. Another guy has one for sale that he says I can come and look at but he is over 2 hours away. Think I'm going to see it this Saturday. He wants $3200.00. Both are 92's and in decent shape. I have around $4000.00 to spend on car, license, taxes and anything the car may need to be road ready. I have even thought about buying one sight unseen and having it shipped to my mechanic. There are some cheap ones out there. Is this totally crazy. I've go to at least drive the thing to see if I like it. This machine seems way better than an Outback and easier to maintain than a Audi Quattro. I fix all my kids cars when I get a chance so turning a wrench is something I look foreward to. OK let me have it." Edit/Delete Message |

Re: Hopefully a Newbie
If you want something that will go pretty much ANYWHERE find a Land Cruiser, you can get older ones (early 90s) for 4 grand or so, but the SVX is very capable in snow, etc... We've had snow on the ground since Monday (unusual for this part of Oregon) and I've had no problems, however I don't think I'd do too much off roading with it, because of the low ground clearance, if that is what you are looking for...

Re: Hopefully a Newbie
Check the For Sale section and there is a very nice 96 being sold for 2500 in GA. It looks to be in very nice shape and decent mileage.
