Your steering/alternator belt probably broke or became very loose.

Probably not. This would not affect the power steering. As mike said, the belt likely snapped or somehow got loose. A new belt, and a 12mm wrench and hopefully she has some helpful coworkers?

Most autoparts stores will be able to find the correct belt in their lookup.
I've never had one incorrect for an SVX. Other Subarus however, a whole different story.

Re: need help ASAP :(

If it's not the belt it's your crank pulley.

Why not raise the hood and simply look at the belts

Re: need help ASAP :(

If you can call her you should be able to walk her through it to at least take a look...
Might get a clue at least about the belt situation.
... worth a try?

Re: need help ASAP :(

just got back with the car...good news and bad news....

good news it was a belt, well 2 actually the alt belt came off completely and the a/c belt was about to break itself....so i took the ac belt off cus i dont have ac yet anyway....

bad news the guys at advance auto gave me the wrong belt (so nate you can put that one in the books lol) i guess tech the computer gave me the wrong belt cus all he did was read it off the screen and go get it....so the old belt is still on there.....

ALSO the crank pulley is very loose to the point where it hits the block a little bit...now can i just tighten it or does it need to be replaced?

Re: need help ASAP :(

Tighten it if you can to get it home. Once there, take it off and inspect it.
