fusible link blown? HID lights install.
Anyone know what a bad fusible link looks like? Does it look different from a good one? Shouldn't it be burnt out in the middle if it's bad?
Installing new front HID kit with ballasts, etc and seem to have a short and can't find a bad fuse. Worked half-way for a minute then all went haywire and now seems like battery is dead but tests fine. Put the key in, dash lights look good, turn the key and all lights go dull or flash. Anyone else go brain-dead when you think there's a short? Last edited by WYOSVX; 11-25-2012 at 08:07 PM. |

Re: fusible link
Usually the insulation will look a little dark and it will feel crunchy/crackly inside when you bend it.

Re: fusible link blown? HID lights install.
By that description, it seems okay. Maybe I'll replace anyway. I put the battery on a charger because it was at 90%, disconnected the headlights, and, still, just get some clicking. Wondering what I've blown out. I just get a click when I turn the key. Checked all fuses, too.
Any ideas? Added a pic of the driver side with halo wires dangling and power & ground not connected. Had to make plates to mount ballasts. That part was fun. Used aluminum housing material from an old CD burner. Last edited by WYOSVX; 11-25-2012 at 07:59 PM. |

Re: fusible link
Use a MultiMeter. Set it on continuity and check if it's open.

Re: fusible link
Thanks! I forget about how to do things I don't do very often. In case this helps anyone else who forgets things, like the K.I.S.S. principle:
Got this working today and it was bloody easy. The only good thing I did after installing was to walk away from it all and think for a week. And read this forum! I thought I'd cleaned my terminals well enough but a quick brushing isn't enough and, of course, I ignored that fact. After considering things like the fusible link, then relays, I just went back to square one, cleaned the terminals really well, and VOILA! She started. The lights work. All is well again. On to the next mods: get the halos wired and change to old Buick horns. But not today. Again, gotta thank this forum (and make a contribution already). I know I read someone else's post about cleaning their battery terminals. The attached photo is the front lights, halos not wired yet. |
