Smashed my front suspension

In a combination of stupidity and bad luck I curbed in around 40-50kmh and smashed my right front wheel. The rim lost a good portion of metal and from what the retrieval guy could see, the carrier arm was broken. After bouncing out from the curve I managed to drive the car some hundred meters where I parked it.

It's taken to the shop but there's no knowing what's actually damaged, if there's damage to the frame or "just" some arms and joints. The wheel is skewed and somewhat pushed into the rear end of the wheel well.

Re: Smashed my front suspension

I did that to a Chevy Corsica when I was 16... Took a turn at 30mph slide on some sand plowed right into a curb, it looks so mangled..
The control arm, tie rods, and other misc thing broke taking most of the impact.. no frame damage.

I hope your SVX is ok!

Re: Smashed my front suspension

Thanks!

What concerns me are some small recesses in the roof at the corners of the sunroof cutout. I swear I havent' seen them before. Looks like subtle, machined dents....

Re: Smashed my front suspension

There is no visible damage whatsoever on any body panel that I could see. I hit with the front wheel first, then the rear wheel slammed in but with only some chipping on the rim and tire. I don't know how the forces where distributed throughout the vehicle's parts and if they reached the frame at all.

the sunroof was open when it happened if that matters.

Re: Smashed my front suspension

How is the alignment of the other body panels? Fender/hood/door/quarter panel? In my young and stupid days I did the same to my parents' Forester. Despite destroying the rim the car drove perfectly straight with the spare on. The bill ended up being ~$2000, new wheel/tire/control arm, labour, and alignment. My brother then did likewise to their other Forester, except he mangled 3 corners of the car. Like I said, young and stupid. Now I only break my own cars.

Re: Smashed my front suspension

Well, it's just stupid here

They (marque garage) came up with this parts list:

20200PA100 Lower Arm Assembly, Front Right

20220PA000 Ball Joint Complete

28012PA010 Housing Front Axle, Left

28016PA000 Bearing-Front Axle

28015PA000 Oil Seal - Front Axle, Outer

26750PA000 Tone Wheel - Front

28052PA000 Hub Complete - Front Axle

28015PA010 Oil Seal - Front Axle, Inner

031478000 Snap Ring, Inner

So basically, this last portion is pretty much hub, bearing and the seals to go. But is this a complete list? I seem to remember there was more to it?

The three upper, is it correct with Left housing when the damage was done on the right side? So with the lower arm assembly and the joint, may I presume that nothing else actually broke?

They estimated five hours + alignment.

Re: Smashed my front suspension

I've fixed one with the exact same damage, a used lower control arm, and a new rim (and an alignment) is all you need....I'd try to find used first (but I know that will be rare in your part of the world) the hub and axle should be fine.

Re: Smashed my front suspension

I can always ask the garage why they want to change all that, esp the hub and bearings. Obviously, the car is not going to move on it's own so it's difficult to get a second opinion.
