dashboard "alert" lights come on

Has anyone encountered this problem. I am drving along, more often than not when the engine is approaching idle/slowing down, and all of the little idiot lights pop on for a few seconds.

That would be your alternator. Very common problem.

You can have your alternator rebuilt, or just pick up a new one. It's a very easy swap, and with basic tools you can do it yourself.

Have it tested first just to be sure. Don't want to shell out $$$ when it could just be a loose connection.

It's definately an alternator issue though.

Check belt tightness, just for starters.

My alt belt is ever so loose that when it shifts in power mode from first to second it goes 'screet!' it sounds like a blowoff valve. Really cool!

one other tip some kind soul on this forum gave me (sorry can't remember who):

Remove the battery cables and briefly touch them together. Think it resets the computer.

I did that about 8 months ago and haven't had the lights flicker again (knocking on head - closest thing to wood around me right now).

Not advisable if you are running a big stereo with a capacitor! (unless you like big sparks and possibly damaging something electronic)

If you do a search on how to check engine codes there should be a description on how to reset the ECU from there.
