Not sure about the filter in the pan, but the "program" kit for the 92's (which will work on all SVXes) is about 10 bucks, including hoses and hardware.

I replaced the internal filter in the pan, and I believe it was about 30. Check subaruparts.com

I check out the internal filter at Pep Boys - about $30, if I remember correctly.

ATF fluid flush!`

Leslie
I strongly suggest that you do not just have fluid changed. Instead you have the complete flush. A fluid change only changes 25% of fluid. The flush system consists of adding a solvent to remove deposits, circulation hot through all of the gear changes (they do it with car on a lift) and then they push ALL the old fluid out and push in new. This is done with an external circulation cart where they can monitor the fluid.

I had my '94 done at 125k miles. It previously had the simple change done per routine maintenance. The fluid they removed looked like sludge!! They had to do two total fluid changes to get it really clean.

This service costs $110-135, including the new fluid, for one flush.

A recommendation from me. Others please comment on this service.

That is actually the filter for a legacy that fits just fine. It is the same filter but different hoses and bracket. I just bought 4 of them kits as I could not get a replacement Legacy filter or SVX filter for less than $50.

I strongly suggest against a flush. Small particles in the ATF from years of non-drain/filling actually act as seals. If you flush it you run the risk of knocking out this sealing material and causing major AT Damage. Just do a series of Drain/fills and over time you will have replaced all the fluid.

Randy, could you kindly educate me on this "program" kit? What exactly is it? What kind of hardware is included? Is it for internal or external filtration?
Thanks in advance!

As a "band aid" for the 92's tranny problems, Subaru developed an external filter. It filters the fluid on the inlet side of the stock cooler to try to keep the screen in the stock cooler from clogging. Many are using this program kit on their cars as "cheap insurance" against impurities. The hardware involved is merely a bracket (that fits onto the bottom of the radiator at the radiator bracket) and hose clamps. The hoses are inclluded, so, alls you have to do is figure inlet/outlet and hook it up accordingly.

I can't vouch for or against the tranny flush but I will strongly encourage you to have the external filter as well as the screen filter in the tranny both replaced. Although the internal filter may LOOK clean it isn't. Has anyone else taken a look inside their old screen filter after changing it?

FYI

I have some pictures in my locker that show the program filter (OEM) and another that I replaced it with. Look under tranny filter.
