Tire Choices. Looking for Street/Track use

I'm looking at getting some extremely high performance street tires or race tires that are streetable for the summer. So far in the running are these in 245-45-16:

Toyo Proxie RA1
Toyo Proxie T1s
Bridgestone S03s
Yokohama A032R

Any input would be appreciated.

not sure just how crazy you are willing to be, but tire rack sells a DOT legal autocross tire in that size, the Hoosier A3S03. They also sell a compound for road tracks that I expect is slightly harder.

Otherwise, sorry, no first hand experience with this type tire.

May I ask why you would buy them as I expect they yield very poor mileage in terms of wear rate. why not get a set of racing tires and run a longer lasting tire for day-to-day. It would get you better performance on the track, and not much, if any more, money in the long run (excepting the spare set of wheels).

I already have SP5000s for winter. So for summer I want the absolute best streetable tires I can get, also don't want to have to swap tires @ the track, it's a PITA. Also I'm pretty much a whacky driver so I want grip.

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX
I have been using SO2 for 12 months now. Very good performance tyre, very good in the wet.
The SO3 should be better.

Harvey.

A lot of people I know are VERY serious about autocrossing and swear by Kumho Victorracer V700 Autocross tires They have a treadwear rating of 50 (fifty) which means they will last you a day or two Just kidding. I know that this means that they will wear a whole lot faster than my dunlop sp a2s with a treadlife rating of 420 (50,000 warranty) but I would be surprised if they only last 6,000 miles. I don't know how you can relate treadlife ratings to one another. These are also pretty mediocre to kind of bad in wet conditions.

Adboninal,

Try TOYO Proxes T-1S tires. I did not use them on the track but they were the "grippiest " tires that I ever had. They lasted 22,000 miles. After about 8-10K mlies, they became very noisy. I assuame that they have a dual compound tread. They were great in rain and so-so to fair in snow. Good Luck.

PS: I used them on the SVX stock rim size and had them about 2 years. I belive they cost $732 (w/6% NJ tax) mounted and balanced.
