Question Differential differences

Can I put the front differential from a 2wd svx into a 4wd svx.
Is there a big difference cause I think I can get one cheap and mine is practically in the trash.
Thanx for answers in advance.

The front diff in the AWD model is the same as the FWD model.

Harvey.

This is what I was looking for. I just bought an AWD with a bad front differential and I have a bad FWD tranny with a good front differential. Looking at my parts microfiche it does not show any difference for an AWD versus FWD differential and your post just confirms that. Good!!!

All he needs to do is find a 3.70 rear diff from an overseas SVX or one of the new WRX's.

Shucks!

I guess I am back to square one. I have two parts car that have completely good trannys, so I can use one of them, but did not want to right now. The car with the bad front differential just had the tranny rebuilt, so I was trying to take advantage of that. Like I said--in my microfiche it did not list separate part numbers for the FWD and AWD, but I bow to the experts---which I am not.

USDM front differentials are most definately NOT the same between AWD and FWD models. FWD has a 3.70 final drive and AWD has a 3.54 final drive. Installing the FWD ring and pinion into an AWD trans without changing over the rear diff would result in some serious transfer clutch destruction. I have a 3.54 diff if you would like. It is only the ring gear, and pinion gear(w/ bearing). Send me a PM if you would like

Tom

Differences.

They are the same, if you have an Euro model.

then what was the point of making that statement. In that case you should know they are different in the US and making the statement that they are the same could have cost him a couple hundred dollars and a lot of time tearign the trans back out to get the 3.70 R/P out.

Well I apologise, if I mislead anyone. But that was 3 years ago, and I don't know if I was aware, that the US FWD had a 3.7:1 ratio. I was looking at the mechanics of the diffs, and saw that they were physically interchangeable.

Harvey.
